Perfect sealing? With a gun? It’s easier than you think!
Sooner or later, every home faces a situation where something needs to be sealed – quickly and reliably. Around taps or bathtubs, along the shower cabin, windowsills, or even outdoors on the terrace. While many believe sealing is a task for handymen, we’re here to show you that’s not the case. With the right products and a few simple instructions, you’ll be sealing like a pro in no time.

Why use a cartridge gun?
Sealants – including silicones – are most commonly packed in cartridges. To apply them precisely, you’ll need a cartridge gun (manual or pneumatic). While it might look like a tool for professionals, it's actually simple to use. And with a few tips, the results will be clean, long-lasting, and satisfying.
Preparation is everything
Before sealing, choose the right sealant based on your project – what you’re sealing, where (indoors or outdoors), and on which materials. Every sealant has specific properties, so it’s worth taking a moment to read the product label to avoid mistakes.
We recommend:
- TKK SEAL All purpose silicone extra is a high-quality, neutral-based, elastic silicone sealant ideal for almost any surface.
- TKK SEAL Hand-held or Pneumatic gun for cartridge – you need it for precise application.
- TKK SEAL Active cleaner – for preparing the surface. Before you start sealing, make sure the surface is suitable for application - read the instructions for use on the product packaging. Above all, it has to be clean, firm and free of old silicone residue. Use the TKK SEAL Active cleaner together with a scraper and a cloth.
- TKK SEAL Smoothing tool & smoothing agent – for a flawless finish. Once the surface is clean, protect the edges of the joint where you will apply the sealant. You can use self-adhesive painter's tape to protect the surface and ensure a nice, straight edge. We also recommend that you have the TKK SEAL Smoothing tool and TKK SEAL Smoothing agent with you.
Clean and dry the surface thoroughly before sealing. Remove any old silicone with a scraper and wipe clean. Use painter’s tape to mask the edges and ensure a straight line.
How to prepare the cartridge
- Cut the tip of the cartridge just above the thread – not too much! (as the tip may fall off the cartridge when applying).
- Cut the nozzle at a 45° angle to match the desired width of the bead.
- Screw the nozzle firmly onto the cartridge.

Using the gun – simple and effective
- Press the release lever and pull the plunger back.
- Insert the cartridge into the gun.
- Lock the plunger back into place.
- Press the trigger slowly to begin applying the sealant in a smooth, continuous motion.
- When done, release the lever and remove the cartridge.

Finishing touch
After applying the sealant, use the TKK SEAL Smoothing Tool for a neat finish. Lightly spray the sealant and tool with the TKK SEAL Smoothing Agent – this prevents sticking and helps you shape the joint perfectly. Finally, remove the painter’s tape before the sealant starts drying.

A little practice goes a long way
Your first attempt may not be perfect – and that’s okay! With each project, you’ll get better and more confident. The key is to use quality products, take your time, and follow the instructions.
Whether you’re sealing in the bathroom, kitchen, around windows, or outside on the terrace – TKK products are designed for easy application and lasting results.
