October – fire safety month

Fire safety is not only a necessity, it is also a responsibility. Since safety always comes first, it is of vital importance to protect your lives, as well as your home and your working space. Fires can happen in a flash, and are often due to carelessness or an incorrect assessment of risk.

October – fire safety month

The good news is, however, that a couple of simple measures can help you prevent numerous fires or at least mitigate their consequences.

Where do fires start most often?

  • In the kitchen – due to forgotten pots and pans on the stove or greasy cooker hoods.
  • In the boiler room – due to incorrect maintenance of the furnace or chimney.
  • In the garage or in the workshop – due to incorrect storage of flammable substances (paints, adhesives, solvents).
  • In the attic – where we often store cardboard boxes, old clothes, paper, etc.

October is the month officially dedicated to fire safety, and it is also a perfect opportunity to verify whether your home, working space or office are truly protected from fire hazards.

What can we do ourselves – today?

  • Arrange for a neat storage of your belongings:
Store flammable substances such as cleaning agents, paints or adhesives in a cold, well-ventilated space, protected from heat sources.
  • Regular cleaning and maintenance:
Regularly examine and clean your furnace, chimney, cooking hood, and electric devices. Also make sure that your electric cables are not damaged.
  • Do not cover electric cabinets or sockets with curtains or pieces of furniture.
In the event of overheating, access to your electric cabinet and sockets must be unobstructed.
  • Devices that are switched on must never be left unattended:
Irons, cookers, hair dryers and the like can quickly become sources of a fire if left unattended.
  • A fire extinguisher or an extinguishing spray in your kitchen and garage?
Good practice! Smaller, more compact solutions available on the market may easily be stored in a cupboard or on the wall.

The biggest mistake? Thinking that a fire cannot happen to you. This is why it is extremely important to use tried-and-true solutions that have been developed to contain fire and prevent it from spreading.

And this is where our TKK fireproof products come in to provide you with the highest degree of protection. You can choose between no less than three such products:

TKK PU FOAM FIRESTOP FOAM

This fireproof one-component polyurethane foam with low flame spread characteristics has been specifically developed for use in fire zones where an increased fire resistance is required.

It has been designed to seal and fill joints and openings in walls, ceilings, and other construction elements.

The foam is used to fill, insulate and install electrical installations, ducts, fire-resistant doors and vaults. In the event of a fire, the foam inhibits the spread of the flame and smoke, allowing you more time to evacuate and reducing the risk of additional damage.

  • The foam can be used in construction, industry, and residential buildings.
  • It provides excellent thermal and sound insulation.
  • Its fire-resistant characteristics have been confirmed through European standards.
  • The foam adheres well to all construction materials (wood, concrete, brick, metal, etc.).

TKK SEAL Firestop acryl

Acrylic fireproof sealant preventing the spread of flames, smoke, gases and heat in pipe ducts in the event of a fire.

  • It is perfect for joints between surfaces made of concrete, bricks or plaster.
  • It delivers extraordinary adhesion to various porous materials.
  • It can be applied to humid surfaces and is suitable for internal use.
  • The sealant may be painted after application.

TKK SEAL Firestop silicone

  • It is moisture-resistant and weathertight.
  • It is suitable to be used indoors and in the open.
  • It boasts excellent adhesion to most construction materials.

Why does this matter?

There are no questions when it comes to safety. Fire spreads quickly and unexpectedly. High-quality fireproof materials can decisively affect the outcome – they may retain flames, slow down the spread of the fire, and allow us to make use of this precious time to take appropriate measures or evacuate.

Instead of leaving your safety to chance, opt for professional and tested products which will allow you to protect your structure, as well as your personal safety and the safety of your loved ones, your employees and your assets.

Remember...

  • Examine the state of existing fire protective materials.
  • Replace old, damaged or unsuitable products with new, certified solutions.
  • Take care of regular maintenance, preventive measures and control.
  • Perform a fire drill – it can only help you.
